OIl

I have heard it said that there is a hierarchy amongst painting mediums. Which is to say that drawing is subordinate to watercolor which is subordinate to pastel which is subordinate to oil. [continued] To me, the existence of such a hierarchy in technique and mediums and the order in which they appear is subjective. But, admittedly, when painting in oil the feeling is one of finally arriving. I love to use large brushes, impasto, glazing, and achieving efficient brush strokes. Some artists paint with their opposite hand, paint upside down, or check their progress in a mirror. While not exclusive to oil painting these alternate strategies are certainly fun for me, especially in oil.
